How God Called Worship Artist Back After Her Surprising Break

With over 400 million streams and nearly 2 million combined social media followers, Kim Walker-Smith has established herself as a leading figure in the praise and worship music scene, both in the U.S. and globally.

For two decades, Walker-Smith has been recognized for her deeply spiritual worship anthems that have resonated with listeners far and wide. However, in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her family decided to leave their home in California for the serene environment of Montana. This major life change led her to pause her music career as she and her family adjusted to their new, slower-paced life. Reflecting on this period, Walker-Smith, who gained prominence as part of the band Jesus Culture, noted, “I felt like I was missing something. It was as if I had been living in a state of tension. The slow pace of life here was imposed on us, and as a creative person, it felt incredibly refreshing.”

Now, after more than three years, Walker-Smith has released a new album titled Trample. This album features 12 tracks, including previously released singles like “Boxes,” “Let Revival In,” and “Mama.” Unlike her earlier work, which often emerged from times of struggle, Trample represents a collection of songs born out of triumph. The album conveys victory through both joy and a profound sense of humility, reflecting the lessons learned along the journey.

“This album is essentially a collection of my prayers transformed into lyrics and melodies,” Walker-Smith explains. She will be touring this fall to promote the album. “My hope is that it provides encouragement and speaks prophetically. I want it to push people out of complacency and offer a challenge.”

In her appearance on the “Crossmap Podcast,” Walker-Smith discusses her decision to step away from music and the divine inspiration that led her back. She also emphasizes the importance of introducing worship to children early on and shares insights into the foundational elements that shaped Trample.
