A former high-ranking official from the Vatican, who was excommunicated this year, is urging American Catholics to back Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Carlo Maria Vigano, who previously served as the Vatican’s ambassador to the U.S. from 2011 to 2016, issued a letter to American Catholics, emphasizing the importance of their vote and expressing strong opposition to Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he labeled as “an infernal monster who obeys Satan.”
Vigano, known for his sharp criticism of Pope Francis, was excommunicated in July after raising questions about the pope’s legitimacy. In his letter, he framed voting as a “moral duty,” suggesting that voters are not merely choosing between two candidates but are facing a critical decision with significant moral implications. He argued that the choice is between a conservative leader fighting against a corrupt system and Harris, whom he portrays as a figure aligned with malevolent forces.
He further stated that for Catholics, voting for Harris is not an option, describing it as “morally inadmissible” and a serious sin. Vigano claimed that abstaining from voting is equally unacceptable, as neutrality would align one with the enemy in this political struggle. He argued that casting a vote for Trump signifies a rejection of an anti-Catholic and anti-Christian agenda, positioning it as a defense against a dystopian future.
The letter also highlighted various cultural controversies in the U.S., including concerns over the influence of “woke” ideology and inappropriate content in education. Vigano accused Harris of being manipulated by figures like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros, asserting that those behind her are committed to a malevolent agenda targeting believers, especially Catholics.
Concluding his appeal, Vigano portrayed Trump as the necessary choice to resist what he sees as a globalist takeover by the left, warning of dire consequences for future generations. He called upon Catholics to vote decisively and pray for guidance, reinforcing the message that he believes only Trump can uphold Christian values in the face of what he views as chaotic and destructive forces. Recent polling data indicated that a majority of Catholics are leaning toward Trump over Harris in their electoral choices.
