He was invited as a keynote speaker.
Former Vice President Mike Pence recently spoke at Colorado Christian University (CCU), urging students to become “champions” for God and His teachings. Speaking at the inaugural session of CCU’s President’s Speaker Series on November 15, Pence and his wife, Karen, shared words of encouragement to inspire the next generation of Christian leaders. The event included a luncheon and keynote address, drawing hundreds of attendees.
In his speech, Pence encouraged students to embrace their faith and carry its values into their future roles in society. “When you make yourself available to God to be a champion for His Gospel and the freedom that comes from Him, He will take you to unimaginable places,” he said, urging the audience to lead with integrity and faith. He also expressed optimism about the role these young leaders would play in shaping America’s future.
CCU President Eric Hogue praised Pence for his leadership, particularly his actions on January 6, 2021, when he upheld the certification of electoral votes despite pressure to do otherwise. Hogue compared Pence’s decision to that of John C. Breckinridge, who certified Abraham Lincoln’s election in 1860 despite political challenges. He emphasized that CCU students might face similar moments of moral and ethical decision-making in their own lives and should be prepared to act with courage and conviction.
The event also included breakout sessions, where Pence discussed topics like the economy with students, and a morning address from Karen Pence. She emphasized the importance of providing students with a biblical education and equipping them with critical thinking skills. “In today’s world, where students are bombarded with messages, teaching them to discern truth through the Bible is essential,” she said.
CCU plans to continue its President’s Speaker Series with another event in early 2025, featuring Christian musician Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth Chapman. The couple, known for their advocacy work in adoption through their organization Show Hope, will share their insights and experiences at the upcoming session.
