Christian Leaders Hold Urgent Prayer For The Nation

Christian leaders are organizing a one-hour prayer broadcast this Sunday evening in response to a New Year’s Day terrorist attack in New Orleans that resulted in 15 deaths and several injuries. The event, called “Pray for the Nation,” will be led by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry alongside Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. The broadcast will feature other prominent Christian leaders, including Pastor Carter Conlon, Pastor Jack Hibbs, and Michele Bachmann, who will all join in praying for the victims, their families, and greater security across the nation.

Governor Landry emphasized the importance of standing against evil and offering prayers for those impacted by the tragic attack. He thanked law enforcement for their protection and urged people to pray for the safety of police officers and their ability to prevent further attacks. Landry described the incident as a stark reminder of the evil in the world and expressed hope that this event would bring people together in prayer and reflection.

Perkins echoed the need for God’s protection over the country, citing Psalm 127, which highlights the importance of divine intervention for a city’s safety. He urged Christians to pray for the nation to turn to God in order to safeguard its people. Perkins further emphasized that seeking God’s protection was the only way to protect the country from growing threats and to maintain its freedom.

The attack itself was carried out by Shamsud Din Jabbar, who acted alone. He drove a rented pickup truck into pedestrians celebrating on Bourbon Street, killing 14 and injuring many others. After exiting the vehicle, Jabbar opened fire on police officers. The FBI confirmed that Jabbar had expressed support for ISIS and had an ISIS flag on the truck during the attack. Investigators also revealed that Jabbar initially intended to harm his family and friends, but his plan shifted due to concerns about media coverage.

The virtual prayer gathering will be a significant opportunity for Christian leaders to show solidarity with those affected by the tragedy while also praying for the nation as a whole. The leaders hope the event will be a step toward healing and bring attention to the importance of standing united against violence and evil in society.
