He has a divine mission.
President Donald Trump proclaimed he was “saved by God to make America great again” during his Inauguration Day speech on Monday, vowing to lead the United States into a “golden age.” Speaking at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, Trump reflected on the challenges of his journey, including a July 2024 assassination attempt in which he was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was subsequently neutralized by Secret Service agents.
Trump described the attack as a pivotal moment in his life and mission. “An assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt then, and even more so now, that my life was saved for a purpose,” he said. “I was saved by God to make America great again.” Declaring the day as “liberation day,” he reassured Americans of his commitment to upholding the Constitution, the nation’s values, and faith, while promising transformative leadership.
In his address, Trump announced the dawn of “the golden age of America,” pledging to restore national pride, prosperity, and respect on the global stage. Promising to put “America first,” he outlined key initiatives, including tackling illegal immigration, curbing inflation, and leveraging natural gas reserves to address energy challenges. Among his priorities were executive actions to establish the Department of Government Efficiency, eliminate the “Green New Deal,” and end perceived misuse of federal agencies for political purposes.
Trump also promised to remove Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, advocating for a society that is “color-blind and merit-based.” Reiterating a traditionalist stance, he affirmed that the government would officially recognize only two genders. He extended gratitude to Black and Hispanic communities, emphasizing a commitment to advancing Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality and opportunity.
The ceremony, held indoors due to frigid temperatures, featured a stirring rendition of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” On the eve of his swearing-in, Trump addressed a rally at Capital One Arena, vowing swift action to resolve the nation’s crises, including securing borders, reducing inflation, cutting taxes, and revitalizing American industry. He assured attendees that schools under his administration would foster patriotism and remove divisive ideologies like critical race theory.
