They are praying for a miracle.
Lucy Pat Curl, the 85-year-old wife of First Baptist Church Orlando’s pastoral care minister Bill Curl, was critically injured following a brutal attack in her home. While her husband was at work, she was assaulted, suffering a severe brain injury that doctors have said is beyond medical healing. Lucy Pat is currently on life support at Orlando Regional Medical Center, and the church congregation is praying for her recovery.
Police reports revealed that Pastor Curl found his wife injured in their garage, pressing the car horn for help. The attacker, identified as 55-year-old Ronald D. Davis, had posed as a community service officer to enter the home and assault Lucy Pat before fleeing. Davis was later arrested nearby and faces charges of aggravated battery and home invasion. He had recently been released from prison after serving a 15-year sentence for similar crimes.
Lucy Pat and Bill Curl have been valued members of their church for over 50 years, and the congregation is deeply saddened by the tragic event. Known for her musical talents, Lucy Pat has been active in many church functions. The church community is rallying around the Curl family, with Senior Pastor David Uth leading prayers, even as doctors give little hope for her recovery.
Despite the bleak medical prognosis, Bill Curl remains hopeful, trusting in God’s power to work miracles. He has expressed his faith to the medical team, holding on to the belief that God can still intervene. The church continues to pray for Lucy Pat, offering their support as the family faces difficult decisions about her medical care.
