Faith comes first.

Scott Turner, the Texas megachurch pastor and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, began President Donald Trump’s first cabinet meeting of his second term with a prayer, asking for God’s blessings and expressing gratitude in Jesus’ name. Turner, who also serves as an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, thanked God for the opportunity to serve and prayed for wisdom and guidance for the president, vice president, and the cabinet as they lead the nation.

In his prayer, Turner emphasized humility and the importance of leading with clarity and righteousness. He prayed for the nation, quoting Scripture, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” and asked for God’s guidance in the work ahead, ensuring that the meeting would honor and glorify God.

After the prayer, President Trump praised Turner, calling it a “very good job.” Turner later shared a video of the moment on social media, expressing his deep honor in leading the prayer at the cabinet meeting.

Turner, confirmed as HUD secretary earlier in the month, had previously served as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first term. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Turner reflected on his journey, including his NFL career and time in the Texas House, which he believes prepared him for his current role.

During his CPAC speech, Turner addressed the housing affordability crisis, particularly how it affects young Americans, including his own son. He framed the issue as an opportunity to implement long-term policies that increase access to affordable housing and promote self-sufficiency for individuals and families.
