New Doc Promises To Restore America’s Lost Faith

In an era of increasing political division and declining historical literacy, a new documentary titled The American Miracle: Our Nation is No Accident explores the idea that the founding of the United States was guided by divine providence. Directed by Tim Mahoney and produced by Douglas Maddox, the film is based on Michael Medved’s bestselling book and will debut in theaters nationwide from June 9–11 through Fathom Entertainment. Mahoney emphasized the importance of revisiting America’s founding stories, particularly as many younger Americans struggle with basic historical knowledge.

The documentary highlights pivotal events such as George Washington’s military experiences, suggesting that his survival against overwhelming odds points to divine protection. Mahoney and Maddox argue that these stories reflect a larger pattern of providence that is often overlooked or dismissed by modern historians. They believe that showcasing virtuous, heroic figures like Washington is crucial in today’s culture, where such examples are increasingly rare.

The American Miracle also draws from Medved’s personal history, with his family’s immigrant background influencing his deep appreciation for America’s founding values. Covering four chapters from Medved’s book, the film examines key moments like the Battle of Monongahela, where Washington survived despite extraordinary dangers, reinforcing the theme of divine intervention. The filmmakers argue that contemporary education often omits or minimizes the religious foundations of America’s founding documents.

Commentary from scholars like Robert P. George and Stephen Meyer in the film further explores the religious and philosophical ideas embedded in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. While the documentary acknowledges the shortcomings of the Founding Fathers, particularly regarding slavery, it stresses that the failure was in their actions, not in the ideals themselves. Through this project, Mahoney and Maddox aim to reconnect Americans with the true spirit of their nation’s beginnings and inspire a renewed appreciation for its founding principles.

Featuring performances from actors such as Pat Boone, Kevin Sorbo, and Nicole C. Mullen, and commentary from figures like Richard Dreyfuss and Lord Andrew Roberts, the film combines dramatic storytelling with scholarly insight. The filmmakers hope it will reach audiences beyond just history enthusiasts, encouraging a broader understanding of America’s origins and the enduring importance of its founding ideals.
