Christian Singer Soars To No. 1 On Country Charts

Breanna Nix, a Christian singer and recent “American Idol” finalist, has soared to the top of Apple Music’s Country chart with her single “Higher,” following her third-place finish in the show’s 23rd season. Nix celebrated the achievement on Instagram, calling it the beginning of what she hopes is a long and meaningful journey. The track, a rendition of Toby Lightman’s original, currently holds a high position on both the country and overall Apple Songs charts.

During the competition, Nix stood out for her openly expressed Christian faith and gospel music selections. Her performances included songs like “In Jesus Name” by Katy Nichole and “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” by Danny Gokey, reflecting her spiritual convictions. Her faith-based choices resonated with many viewers and set her apart as the only openly Christian contestant in the season’s top three.

Nix also faced criticism online, particularly about her religious identity. In a mentoring session with season 3 winner Fantasia, she shared the emotional impact of comments questioning her Christianity. Fantasia offered her encouragement, advising her to avoid social media negativity and reminding her that faith can still shine through in her musical career. Despite these challenges, Nix remained committed to her beliefs, frequently sharing spiritual reflections with her followers.

Other Christian contestants this season included Canaan James Hill, a 17-year-old preacher-in-training, who performed gospel songs before being eliminated ahead of the semifinals. Hill returned for the finale to perform with gospel singer Kirk Franklin. Meanwhile, Nix took the stage with finalists Jamal Roberts and John Foster for a group performance of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and delivered a solo of “In Jesus Name.”

Post-show, Nix has continued to express gratitude and faith on social media, praising her fellow contestants and reaffirming her spiritual values. She previously predicted Roberts’ win early in the season, calling him “anointed.” Both Roberts and Nix have since shared faith-centered messages, emphasizing their belief in divine guidance. Their experiences echo those of past contestants like Megan Danielle and Carrie Underwood, who have also navigated fame while staying true to their Christian beliefs.
