NFL Rookie Makes Bold Faith Move Before Season Starts

Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Traeshon Holden recently shared a significant spiritual moment with the public—his baptism. The former Alabama and Oregon college football player posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing him being baptized, with the caption, “Thank you lord for this day.”

The video features Holden entering a baptismal pool fully dressed, where two men guide him under the water as part of the Christian sacrament. As he emerges, the crowd around him breaks into applause. Playing in the background is the worship song “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin. The clip lasts under half a minute but powerfully captures the moment.

Holden has been open about his faith for some time. After signing with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in May, he posted a message reflecting on his journey, saying, “Everything happened this way for a reason.” Despite not being drafted, he signed a three-year, $2.9 million contract with a minimal signing bonus and no guaranteed salary if released.

Throughout the NFL Draft process, Holden remained grounded in his belief that God was guiding his path. In response to comments about other players being selected ahead of him, he tweeted, “The Lord don’t make no mistakes.” On draft day, he referenced Jeremiah 29:11, a Bible verse about hope and divine purpose, underscoring his trust in God’s plan.

Holden’s faith has been a recurring theme throughout his football journey. When declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft in January, he began his statement by thanking God for the opportunity to pursue his dreams. Having attended St. Frances Academy, a Catholic high school in Baltimore, Holden played three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Oregon, where he finished his collegiate career.
