On January 5, 2024, the YouVersion Bible App achieved a new record, with 798,000 installations in a single day, marking the highest number of installs in the app’s history. This milestone surpasses the previous record from the first Sunday of 2023, while New Year’s Day 2024 ranked as the third-highest for app installs. Along with the surge in downloads, 18.2 million users engaged with Bible content on that same day, reflecting a growing trend of Bible app usage, especially during the beginning of the year when many users set goals to read Scripture more regularly.
Bobby Gruenewald, the app’s founder and pastor at Life.Church, noted that the start of the year usually leads to an uptick in Bible engagement, and this year saw even more significant growth compared to 2023. The app experienced notable increases in regions like Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, with countries such as Ethiopia, Egypt, and Turkey seeing especially high activity. Northern Africa, in particular, experienced a remarkable 297% increase in engagement.
The YouVersion team has worked to enhance the app’s features to help users build consistent Bible-reading habits. One of the most popular tools is Bible Plans, which provide daily devotionals in various languages. Additionally, the app’s “Plans with Friends” feature encourages community engagement by allowing users to study Scripture together. These features aim to make it easier for users to connect with the Bible and engage in meaningful, communal study.
Since its launch in 2008, the YouVersion Bible App has been installed on over 850 million devices worldwide and is available in more than 2,100 languages. As of 2024, the app is averaging 11.2 million new installs per month and 14 million daily users who engage with Bible content. Gruenewald expressed gratitude for the platform’s continued growth, emphasizing how it enables users to experience the transformative power of the Bible on a daily basis.
