His new album pays tribute to his brother.

After enduring a period of deep personal loss and spiritual renewal, Mike Weaver, lead singer of Big Daddy Weave, is finally ready to open up about the band’s long-anticipated album Let It Begin. The project, releasing May 23 through Curb Records, marks the group’s return to music after six years. It’s a deeply emotional work inspired by grief, healing, and unwavering faith, reflecting the highs and lows experienced by the band, especially following the death of Weaver’s younger brother and bandmate, Jay Weaver, in 2022.

Big Daddy Weave’s roots trace back to 1998 at the University of Mobile in Alabama, where Weaver transitioned from a worship leader to forming one of the most consistent acts in Christian music. Despite their success—including Dove Awards and Billboard chart appearances—the band has never focused on fame. Weaver emphasizes that their journey has always been sustained by faith, not ambition. The new album is especially significant as it carries the weight of Jay’s passing and the emotional aftermath that followed, including the earlier deaths of their parents and Jay’s own serious health challenges.

One of the album’s most personal tracks, “Jaybird,” was born out of a writing session with Matthew West and Jeff Pardo. Weaver recalls pouring out his emotions during that time, allowing his grief to shape the song. Though initially painful to perform, he eventually found healing through music. Another standout track, “I’ve Just Seen Too Much,” came from a similarly vulnerable place. The album’s title song, penned by Matt Maher, encapsulates the theme of beginning again and trusting Jesus through a process of transformation rather than instant change.

Beyond the studio, healing has also continued on the road. During the Let It Begin tour, moments of divine intervention and spiritual renewal have renewed Weaver’s sense of purpose. A particularly impactful encounter with fellow artist Ben Fuller reminded him of his mission. Witnessing Fuller minister to a struggling fan on tour reaffirmed Weaver’s belief in Jesus’ power to bring life and restoration, even in the darkest times.

Now, as the band prepares to share Let It Begin with the world, Weaver’s hope is that the music will comfort and inspire others going through their own hardships. He admits that his story is not about having everything together, but about a broken man being made whole through Christ. In his own words, the heart of the album—and his testimony—is that “Jesus is faithful,” even in seasons of loss. Weaver’s ultimate prayer is that this new chapter brings others closer to the hope, healing, and revival that only Jesus can offer.
