His family is praying for a miracle.

Jimmy Swaggart, a leading figure in American televangelism for over five decades, has suffered a heart attack and is currently in critical condition, according to a public statement from his family. Swaggart, 90, experienced cardiac arrest early Sunday morning at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His son, Donnie Swaggart, informed the congregation at Family Worship Center—where Jimmy Swaggart serves as senior pastor—that he and his own son, Gabe, attempted life-saving measures until emergency responders arrived.

The elder Swaggart was revived and transported to the ICU, but his condition remains grave. “Unless God intervenes, his time may be limited,” Donnie Swaggart said during the emotional announcement. He emphasized the family’s reliance on their faith, stating they are not accepting medical prognoses and are giving space for divine healing. An update shared Monday on Swaggart’s official Facebook page confirmed that there has been no change in his condition and asked supporters to continue praying.

In addition to leading Family Worship Center, Swaggart oversees SonLife Broadcasting Network, which he launched in 2007 and claims to reach a worldwide audience. He also founded Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and has authored more than 60 books and religious commentaries. As a gospel musician, he has recorded around 60 albums and sold nearly 17 million copies globally.

Throughout his career, Swaggart’s ministry has been marked by both major influence and controversy. He faced two major scandals involving prostitutes in 1988 and 1991, the first of which led to his removal from the Assemblies of God denomination. The second incident involved his being pulled over by California police and found with a known sex worker, which reignited public scrutiny of his ministry.

Despite past controversies, Swaggart continued to rebuild his platform and remained a significant voice in Pentecostal broadcasting. As his family and supporters pray for a miracle, the legacy of one of America’s most recognized religious broadcasters hangs in the balance.
