It’s going to be a highlight.
Christian singer and Louisiana native Lauren Daigle is set to perform “America the Beautiful” at this Sunday’s Super Bowl pre-show, joining jazz legend Trombone Shorty on stage at the Caesars Superdome. This year’s Super Bowl, returning to New Orleans after more than 20 years, will feature a strong Louisiana representation, with New Orleans native Jon Batiste singing the national anthem and R&B artist Ledisi performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The game will be broadcast on Fox.
Daigle expressed excitement about the opportunity, saying it will be a chance to showcase New Orleans’ culture and the unity that music can bring. She added that performing a message of hope for the city, especially after its recent hardships, would be one of her most memorable moments. Daigle is no stranger to the Superdome, having previously performed the national anthem at the 2020 LSU-Clemson national championship game.
Comparing her performance of “America the Beautiful” to the national anthem, Daigle mentioned that the latter is more challenging due to its complex phrasing and melodies. Over the years, the Super Bowl pre-show has featured notable performers, including Christian artist Kirk Franklin. Daigle, at 33, has achieved great success in Christian music, with her 2018 album Look Up Child going platinum and its hit single “You Say” breaking records on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.
As a young Christian artist with a significant platform, Daigle reflected on the pressures of sharing her faith publicly. She often draws strength from Matthew 5:10, which speaks of blessings for those persecuted for righteousness. Daigle emphasized that when sharing her faith, she focuses on portraying God’s loving and compassionate nature, believing that people are more receptive to hearing about a kind and patient God.
In the lead-up to the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also spoke about his faith, giving glory to God after his team’s victory over the Buffalo Bills. Mahomes, who will play in his third consecutive Super Bowl, has been vocal about his faith, emphasizing the importance of honoring God through his actions both on and off the field.
