Pastor Sells Church Following Devastating Family Tragedy
The property of Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which was led by Pastor John-Paul Miller, has been sold for approximately $2.1 million. According to local reports, the church, which has existed since 1958, was sold to Salem Woods Holdings LLC on February 13. The 2.3-acre site, formerly owned by Solid Rock Ministries, is expected to be demolished to make way for new condominiums.
The sale of the church property comes after a period of declining attendance and ongoing protests outside the church, which began after Pastor Miller’s wife, Mica Miller, died by suicide in April of the previous year. Pastor Miller expressed disappointment with the city of Myrtle Beach, claiming that local authorities did not intervene to stop the harassment directed toward the church. He lamented the church’s fate, stating that after surviving for 70 years, it would now be torn down due to redevelopment.
John-Paul Miller and his late wife Mica were married in 2017 after both divorced their previous partners. The couple had been going through divorce proceedings when Mica tragically took her own life in North Carolina. Mica had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and some of her friends and family believed Pastor Miller’s alleged mistreatment of her contributed to her decision. It was also reported that during the divorce proceedings, Miller had posted a nude photo of Mica on social media, which he later removed and apologized for via email.
In November, FBI agents searched Pastor Miller’s residence as part of an investigation into his wife’s suicide. Although Miller denied any involvement in her death and has not been charged, his actions remain under scrutiny. Around the same time, Miller was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman who was protesting outside his church. Despite these challenges, he continues to deny any wrongdoing.
