Thousands Turning To Christ Amid War
As war continues to ravage Ukraine, a spiritual revival is emerging amid the destruction, according to Ukrainian evangelist David Karcha. Addressing European church leaders at the European Congress on Evangelism in Berlin, Karcha described how Ukrainian churches have become centers of hope during the ongoing conflict. He emphasized that while the Gospel is powerful during peace, it becomes unstoppable in times of war. His message resonated strongly with the conference’s theme of resilience and faith in crisis, especially as it followed a visit by Franklin Graham to President Zelenskyy to pray for peace.
Karcha recounted the Ukrainian Church’s decision to stay and support their communities after the 2022 Russian invasion, despite having no clear plan or preparation. Acts of faith, even small ones, became part of a larger movement of hope and spiritual awakening. He rejected the focus on persecution narratives, instead highlighting a surge of faith across the country, noting that in 2023 alone, thousands were baptized in Baptist churches. The widespread need for spiritual support, he said, has drawn countless people into churches where they experience love, care, and the message of Christ—many for the first time.
He shared stories of transformation, including one about a woman who fled to Germany and encountered Jesus through the hospitality of a church, and another of a man named Viktor who came to faith after a lifetime of running from God. These individual stories, Karcha explained, are reflections of a larger movement of grace unfolding across Ukraine. He stressed that the Church is not defined by buildings but by the people who choose to serve and stand firm in faith, even amidst chaos.
Karcha also expressed gratitude to churches throughout Europe for their support, stating that the body of Christ knows no borders. Ukrainian believers continue to serve on the frontlines—ministering to soldiers, comforting widows and orphans, and aiding those who have lost everything. These efforts begin with listening, followed by prayer, compassion, and ultimately sharing the hope found in Christ.
In closing, Karcha emphasized that God is transforming Ukraine’s suffering into a testimony of revival. Despite the horror of war, the Church in Ukraine remains steadfast, bringing light into darkness and proving that the foundation of faith holds firm even under fire. He encouraged Christians everywhere to recognize this divine work and boldly proclaim Jesus, declaring that Ukraine is not only a battleground—but a place of spiritual awakening.
