Christian Groups Unite To Fight Wildfire Aftermath
Two major Christian organizations, CityServe and World Help, are leading relief efforts to assist families devastated by the catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles County and surrounding Southern California regions.
With the fires still raging across thousands of acres, both organizations are working in partnership with local churches and community groups to deliver essential aid to those affected by the disaster. These wildfires, driven by dry conditions and high winds, have caused widespread destruction, including the loss of over 9,000 structures, displacing more than 180,000 people, and claiming at least 10 lives. Despite the tireless efforts of emergency responders, the crisis remains severe.
CityServe, a Christian nonprofit, has mobilized to deliver vital supplies such as food, water, hygiene products, and clothing to those in need. Executive Director Karl Hargestam emphasized the importance of collaborating with churches and community partners to ensure that aid reaches the hardest-hit areas efficiently. “We are heartbroken by the scale of this tragedy and are committed to offering both material support and the compassion necessary to help communities heal,” Hargestam stated. CityServe is also focused on long-term recovery, planning to assist families in rebuilding their lives once the fires are contained.
In parallel, World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization, has dispatched emergency supplies such as temporary shelter, food, and hygiene items to Los Angeles County. President Noel Brewer Yeatts highlighted the ongoing challenges, noting that the recovery process will extend far beyond the containment of the fires. “So many have lost everything, and while relief efforts are urgent, we are also committed to long-term support for rebuilding,” Yeatts said. World Help is working with local partners to ensure that aid reaches vulnerable communities, and donations are being collected to fund ongoing recovery efforts.
