PCA Elects Bold New Moderator

Kevin DeYoung, a respected pastor and author, has been elected moderator of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) General Assembly, held this week in Chattanooga, Tennessee. DeYoung serves as the senior pastor of Christ Covenant Church in North Carolina and is known for his firm theological convictions and commitment to the Reformed faith. His nomination was praised for highlighting his clear and humble leadership style.

DeYoung’s nomination speech emphasized his dedication to Scripture and his servant-hearted approach, describing him as someone who deeply values the local church and is prepared to lead with integrity and grace. The speech also highlighted the importance of handling church matters with honesty and a spirit of worship, rather than merely avoiding conflict or controversy.

A native of Michigan, DeYoung has a strong academic background, including degrees in religion, divinity, and history. He has authored more than a dozen books that explore Christian faith and practice. Originally ordained in the Reformed Church in America, he and his congregation joined the PCA in 2015. He balances his ministry with family life, being married with nine children.

DeYoung has previously written about challenges facing the church, particularly addressing denominational divides over issues such as homosexuality. He has called for clear positions to be taken and for respectful separation when unity is no longer possible, underscoring the need for theological clarity and grace within the church.

Overall, DeYoung’s election as moderator reflects his standing as a thoughtful and committed leader in the PCA, with a focus on faithful teaching, church unity, and service to Christ.
