The truth will always come out.
In a remarkable turn of events in Pakistan, a 72-year-old Christian man named Younis Bhatti was acquitted of blasphemy charges after the individual who filed the complaint admitted to fabricating the accusation. Bhatti was accused of desecrating the Quran in a village in Faisalabad District, Punjab Province. The accuser, Sosan Fatima, alleged that Bhatti forcibly entered her home, assaulted her, and damaged the Quran, but later confessed to falsifying the accusations along with her husband and two others.
After Fatima’s confession, authorities assured Bhatti that his name would be removed from the First Information Report (FIR). However, due to safety concerns arising from threats, he could not be immediately released. The false blasphemy allegations had incited protests, leading many local Christians to flee their homes.
Bhatti expressed gratitude for his exoneration, attributing his deliverance to divine intervention and the support of a Christian rights organization. He maintained his innocence, stating that while he had visited Fatima’s residence to discuss property division, he did not enter her home. Instead, he learned of the accusations after leaving and witnessing the ensuing turmoil fueled by mosque announcements.
Despite the challenges and imminent danger, Bhatti’s unwavering faith empowered him to confront the situation rather than flee. He surrendered to the authorities amid the hostile environment, eventually leading to his vindication. The swift resolution of Bhatti’s case, facilitated by a fair investigation and confession, was deemed remarkable by advocates, though concerns remained about the safety of Bhatti and his family in Pakistan’s volatile environment regarding blasphemy accusations.
