It’s a stunning tribute.

Wonder Project, an independent studio focusing on storytelling rooted in faith and values, has announced its next feature film, Flyer. The movie will explore the remarkable journey of Orville and Wilbur Wright, the brothers who revolutionized human history with the invention of powered flight. Directed by Jon Gunn, known for Ordinary Angels, the film highlights the perseverance and ingenuity of two humble bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio. Gunn described the project as a “uniquely American story” filled with humor, heart, and spectacular moments.

The production team includes seasoned industry figures such as producer Jeremy Latcham, known for projects like Iron Man and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The screenplay for Flyer was penned by Emmy-winning journalist James Stolz and Peter Doyle, who are also executive producers. The film will trace the Wright brothers’ journey to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, as they pursue their dream of achieving powered flight.

Raised in a devout Christian household led by their father, Bishop Milton Wright, Orville and Wilbur were shaped by values emphasizing hard work, moral integrity, and intellectual curiosity. Though their adult faith is less documented, the brothers adhered to a disciplined lifestyle, abstaining from alcohol and tobacco, and were described as “moral to the core” by a friend from Kitty Hawk. These values deeply influenced their approach to innovation and perseverance.

Wonder Project was co-founded by former Netflix and YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten and filmmaker Jon Erwin to produce inspiring content for global audiences. Their projects emphasize timeless values and hope, with notable advisors like Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen. Among their upcoming ventures is House of David, a historical series about the biblical King David, set to debut on Prime Video in early 2025. This series will delve into the dramatic rivalry between King Saul and the shepherd-turned-king David, blending themes of love, violence, and political intrigue.

Erwin has expressed a vision to create a studio that offers creatives more freedom and resources to serve audiences seeking faith-based and values-driven entertainment. By partnering with mainstream platforms while also building independent distribution channels, Wonder Project aims to expand its reach and influence in the entertainment industry. As Erwin explained, the goal is to empower creators and provide content that resonates deeply with families and faith-oriented viewers.
