His faith is unwavering.
Willie Robertson recently shared details about his father, Phil Robertson’s health, revealing that the “Duck Dynasty” patriarch is dealing with several health challenges, but remains mentally sharp when it comes to his biblical knowledge.
Phil, 78, is struggling with a blood disorder, mental health issues potentially related to early-onset Alzheimer’s, and possibly some ministrokes, according to Willie. He also has a fractured back that causes significant pain, especially when standing or moving from a seated or lying position. Willie explained that while the back pain is the most troublesome issue affecting Phil’s daily life, doctors are exploring various treatments and medications to manage his conditions.
The blood disorder is making Phil’s blood thicker, which could be contributing to ministrokes. Willie noted that it is difficult to determine if his father’s cognitive struggles are a result of early Alzheimer’s or brain damage from past strokes. He also mentioned that other family members have experienced similar health issues, including Phil’s siblings who have passed away.
Phil’s health problems also include an enlarged spleen, which may be affecting his appetite. Despite his physical challenges, Phil’s faith remains strong, and Willie emphasized that his father’s biblical knowledge and spiritual commitment are as sharp as ever.
Earlier in December, Jase Robertson, Phil’s son, also spoke about their father’s health struggles on the “Unashamed with the Robertson Family” podcast. Jase mentioned that Phil was battling a blood disease that has caused various complications. However, despite these challenges, Phil remains hopeful about returning to his podcast duties.
The Robertson family gained fame through the A&E reality show Duck Dynasty, which ran from 2012 to 2017, showcasing their family business, Duck Commander, and their strong faith. Phil’s outspoken views on religion, including his controversial comments about homosexuality, made headlines in 2013 when he was temporarily suspended from the show.
Phil’s health concerns have led him to eat less, with Jase noting that Phil isn’t hungry and has to force himself to eat. Willie has been cooking for his father in an effort to encourage him to eat, though he acknowledges that his father’s appetite is still limited. Despite these physical struggles, Willie shared that Phil remains spiritually grounded, continuing to quote the Bible and express his faith.
Willie emphasized that while his father may not be able to speak or teach as he once did, his faith continues to be an important part of his life, offering him comfort and strength during this difficult time. The family maintains a positive outlook, understanding that life is temporary and focusing on their eternal perspective.
