He stole from the church.

The Church of the Living God International Inc., a Pentecostal denomination located in Ohio, has recently reclaimed a church property situated in San Antonio, Texas. This turnaround comes after accusations that former pastor James Turner, along with Ambrose Robinson—father of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson—illegally transferred the property to another church organization, Resurrection Church of San Antonio Inc.

According to a lawsuit reported by The San Antonio Express-News, Turner is alleged to have fraudulently conveyed the church property at 7225 Walzem Road. Bexar County property records reveal that this site, which features a 6,076-square-foot structure and spans nearly 4.7 acres, was valued at approximately $849,130 as of November. The lawsuit suggests that Turner conspired with Ambrose Robinson to misappropriate the property for personal gain and to benefit Resurrection Church.

The Church of the Living God International has not commented on the matter. Historical records indicate that philanthropist Ronald J. Hermann donated the property in 2000, and construction for the church commenced in 2004. Ambrose Robinson was notably involved as an elder and financial secretary from 2005 until 2017, playing a key role in overseeing the church’s development.

In a lawsuit filed in 2017, the Church of the Living God International accused Turner and Robinson of conspiring to transfer the church’s assets to Resurrection Church without the consent of the original congregation. The deed for the property was officially transferred on August 8, 2017, just a day after Ambrose Robinson was identified as an “organizer” in the formation documents for Resurrection Church.

Recently, Resurrection Church returned the property to the Church of the Living God, and on September 9, both entities notified a federal court that they had reached a settlement and intended to dismiss the lawsuit. Ambrose Robinson and his wife are also the authors of How to Raise An MVP, a book that shares their parenting journey with their son David, highlighting the values they instilled in him and their support for his aspirations.
