It was an unforgettable night of faith.

On Saturday night, over 8,000 attendees from various parts of the U.K. convened in Birmingham to listen to Franklin Graham’s sermon. This occasion marked the American evangelist’s debut visit to the Midlands, occurring 40 years after his late father, Billy Graham, preached at nearby Villa Park.

Graham addressed the enthusiastic crowd at the Birmingham Resorts World Arena, declaring, “Jesus Christ is not dead. He’s alive and He’s here tonight.” His visit is part of the God Loves You Tour, with a forthcoming event scheduled in Glasgow on June 22. Graham reminisced about his father, expressing his father’s profound affection for the U.K. and its people.

Initially, Birmingham was among eight cities listed for Graham’s 2020 tour. However, the tour faced postponement due to legal disputes with seven venues that canceled their agreements. After the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association prevailed in these legal challenges, the tour proceeded as intended.

On Saturday, Graham’s sermon centered on Luke 19, recounting the story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector who found redemption in Christ and committed to reimbursing those he had wronged. This narrative struck a chord with the audience.

The event garnered the support of 500 churches across the U.K. and featured worship sessions led by Michael W. Smith and former Hillsong worship leader Taya, contributing to the evening’s inspirational and uplifting atmosphere.
