She lost everything but her faith.

During the ongoing rain emergency in Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian Evangelical Alliance (Aliança Evangélica Brasileira, AEB) has been gathering testimonies from those affected. Pastor Cassiano Luz, the alliance’s executive director, recounted a particularly touching encounter. While visiting a shelter in Cruzeiro do Sul, he was approached by a woman with a humble request. “Can I ask you for something?” she said quietly. When Pastor Luz affirmed, she tearfully asked for a Bible, explaining that hers had been lost in the flood.

Pastor Luz shared this emotional moment on his Instagram, reflecting on the depth of the woman’s faith amid such devastation. He had been visiting one of the six shelters in the municipality, where people were requesting essential items like wipes, diapers, and clothing. He promised to return with supplies the next day. As he was about to leave, the elderly woman made her poignant request for a Bible. Deeply moved, Pastor Luz assured her he would return with one that very day.

The woman’s request highlighted her unwavering faith, as she prioritized the Word of God over her many other needs. Despite losing all her material possessions to the flood, her foremost desire was for a Bible.

The AEB has been at the forefront of relief efforts, coordinating volunteers from across Brazil. The response has been overwhelming, with a waiting list of volunteers ready to be deployed as needed. Pastor Luz has been actively supporting the local population, and he noted the continuous influx of volunteers and donations, including daily truck deliveries. He has urged municipal authorities to take over emergency management to better handle the situation.

As volunteers continue their efforts, they provide much-needed support, including food, hygiene kits, and clothing, while also offering emotional comfort. Despite warnings from civil defense
