He’s thanking God.

Country singer Jason “Sundance” Head, known for winning season 11 of The Voice and as the son of musician Roy Head, survived a life-threatening accidental gunshot wound to the stomach. The incident occurred on November 15 while he was hunting alone in Texas. The bullet, fortunately, missed vital organs and lodged in fatty tissue, allowing him to receive emergency care. He was airlifted to the University of Texas at Tyler, where medical teams treated his injury.

In a heartfelt video posted on Facebook, Head expressed deep gratitude to God, the first responders, and the trauma team for saving his life. He recounted the terrifying experience, stating he truly believed he was going to die. Despite the trauma, he thanked his supporters for their prayers and acknowledged feeling blessed to have survived the ordeal, although the bullet remains in his body as part of his ongoing recovery.

Head later explained how the accident happened. While carrying a .22-caliber revolver in a quick-draw holster, the gun slipped and discharged when it struck the doorframe of his car. The unexpected shot left him bleeding heavily, but he managed to seek help by running to a nearby highway. After a few cars passed without stopping, a stranger eventually pulled over to assist. Head described the man as “an angel from heaven,” crediting him with saving his life.

His wife, Misty, shared updates on social media, calling for prayers as he was rushed to the hospital. She later expressed immense gratitude for the Good Samaritan who stopped, the first responders, and the medical professionals who treated her husband. Misty also shared a photo of the bullet’s entry point, emphasizing how narrowly the injury avoided causing devastating harm. She praised God for protecting her husband during the incident.

Sundance Head first gained widespread recognition in 2016 when he won The Voice as part of Blake Shelton’s team. His soulful performances, including Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” captivated audiences. Before that, he had also competed on American Idol during its seventh season, reaching the top 16. His recent accident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, which he has openly acknowledged with gratitude and faith.
