House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the ongoing clash of ideologies in the United States and rallied Christians to uphold the nation’s foundational truths among the younger generation. At the annual meeting and awards gala of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL), themed “Save the Nation,” various societal debates took center stage, addressing issues like abortion, sexuality, gender, and the restoration of faith in America.

Johnson, a Baptist and newly elected House Speaker, was honored with the NACL American Patriot Award for Christian Honor and Courage. In his keynote address, he highlighted the profound challenges faced by the nation, comparing them to the monumental trials of World War II and the Civil War. Despite these trials, Johnson stressed the importance of maintaining faith in God, asserting that the nation’s hope lies in divine guidance.

Referencing British philosopher G.K. Chesterton, Johnson pointed out America’s unique foundation—a nation built upon the creed that “all men are created equal” and endowed by God with inherent and unalienable rights, notably life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as enshrined in The Declaration of Independence. He underscored that America’s distinctiveness stemmed from the acknowledgment that these rights derive from God, not governmental decree, calling it an intrinsic duty to defend them.

Identifying the current landscape as a clash of worldviews, Johnson urged Christian conservatives to articulate foundational truths with clarity and conviction. He emphasized the necessity for political leaders to delineate the differences between conservative and progressive ideologies. Johnson urged unity, emphasizing the importance of conveying conservative principles like individual freedom, the rule of law, and human dignity in easily understandable terms.

The NACL, founded in 2019 by former Arkansas state Sen. Jason Rapert, endeavors to unite Christian lawmakers in upholding biblical principles. Beyond Johnson’s recognition, other awardees at the event included Glenn and Jenny Story, recognized for their impact through Patriot Mobile, a Christian conservative wireless provider supporting various causes, and Andrew Wommack, honored for his lifetime contributions to Christian leadership through Wommack Ministries and Charis Bible College in Colorado. Their collective efforts echoed the call for preserving foundational values and faith in guiding the nation’s future.
