He’s been preaching since 1998.
Chuck Swindoll, a prominent evangelical pastor and well-known author, is set to retire from his position at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, where he has served as senior pastor since 1998. He will give his final sermon in October. At 89 years old, Swindoll expressed his feelings about this transition, noting that he believes it is time to move into a new chapter of his life. He reflected on the deep connections he has formed with the church community, emphasizing the joy and shared memories they have created together over the years.
While stepping back from his pastoral role, Swindoll plans to continue his influential radio ministry, Insight for Living, which he has been involved with for more than 45 years. He assured his congregation that he and his wife, Cynthia, intend to remain engaged members of the church. In his announcement, he encouraged the community to continue supporting one another in their spiritual journeys and to uphold their shared values.
Born in 1934 in El Campo, Texas, Swindoll graduated magna cum laude from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1963. Throughout his extensive career, he has made a significant impact in Christian media, including co-founding Insight for Living Ministries in 1979. By 2020, the ministry had expanded its reach, broadcasting in all 50 states and more than 2,100 international outlets.
Swindoll’s contributions to religious broadcasting earned him a place in the National Religious Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame in 2000. In addition to his broadcasting work, he is a prolific writer, having authored numerous books and devotionals on faith, leadership, and personal growth, which have inspired many in their spiritual lives.
In April, the elder board of Stonebriar announced that Swindoll would transition to the role of founding pastor while continuing to preach on Sundays. Jonathan Murphy, who previously led Pastoral Ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary, has been appointed as the new senior pastor, ensuring a smooth leadership transition within the church community.
