Mother Cites Bible In Brutal Attack
Christina Robinson, a 30-year-old mother residing in England, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years following her conviction for the murder of her son, Dwelaniyah. The trial, held at Newcastle Crown Court, exposed a harrowing tale of sustained abuse inflicted by Robinson upon her son, employing a bamboo cane as a tool for punishment. Attempting to rationalize her actions, Robinson invoked her religious convictions, citing a particular movement’s endorsement of physical discipline for children.
Presiding over the trial, Justice Garnham vehemently condemned Robinson’s conduct, underscoring the egregious nature of the abuse. Shockingly, despite Dwelaniyah’s severe injuries, Robinson refrained from seeking medical assistance, presumably to conceal her mistreatment.
The fatal incident transpired on November 5, 2022, when Robinson inflicted a fatal head injury on Dwelaniyah, purportedly through vigorous shaking or forceful impact against a solid surface. Subsequent forensic examination confirmed the child’s sustained non-accidental injuries over an extended period. Additionally, revelations emerged during the trial regarding Robinson’s extramarital affair and her pregnancy, which she achieved through artificial insemination.
Robinson’s defense pivoted on her interpretation of biblical texts, positing that they sanctioned corporal punishment. However, the court dismissed this argument, deeming her actions indefensible. Paul Gilroy, a police support officer who responded to the distress call, noted Robinson’s composed demeanor, further underscoring the disturbing nature of the case.
The trial garnered widespread attention, with Detective Chief Inspector Simon Turner expressing profound regret over the tragic loss of an innocent young life. Despite Robinson’s assertions of innocence and religious justification, the court unequivocally deemed her actions reprehensible, stemming from a distorted application of her faith.
