The polls reveal a massive shift.
In the 2024 presidential election, exit polls revealed a significant shift in the Latino Christian vote, with President-elect Donald Trump gaining strong support, particularly among Catholic voters. Data collected from over 22,000 voters highlighted changes across various demographics that likely contributed to Trump’s path to victory.
Trump made notable gains among Catholic voters, with his support rising from 47% in 2020 to 58% in 2024. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris received just 40% of the Catholic vote, down from Biden’s 52% in 2020. Trump’s support among white Catholics also increased, moving from 56% in 2020 to 61% in 2024, while Harris saw a decline in this group, receiving only 35% compared to Biden’s 44% in 2020.
Trump’s surge among Latino Catholics was particularly striking. In 2020, he captured only 28% of this group, but in 2024, that number rose to 53%, while Harris received 46%, a significant drop from Biden’s 71% support in 2020. Brian Burch of CatholicVote credited Trump’s success to his focus on improving economic conditions and addressing border security, contrasting with Harris’s approach to religion and abortion, which Burch argued alienated many Catholic voters.
Trump also saw a substantial increase in support among Latino Protestants, from 48% in 2020 to 64% in 2024. Meanwhile, Harris’s share of the Latino Protestant vote dropped sharply from 51% in 2020 to 34% in 2024. Trump’s overall support among Latino voters rose from 32% in 2020 to 46% in 2024, while Harris’s share of the Latino vote fell to 52% from 65% in 2020. Additionally, Trump gained more ground among Latino men, winning 55% of their vote in 2024 compared to 59% for Biden in 2020, although Latina women continued to favor Harris, with 60% supporting her.
Trump also gained ground among Asian voters, improving his share from 34% in 2020 to 39% in 2024, while Harris’s support from this demographic dropped from 61% to 54%. In contrast, black women remained overwhelmingly supportive of Harris, giving her 91% of their vote compared to Biden’s 90% in 2020. Trump’s support among white Evangelical Christians also grew, from 76% in 2020 to 82% in 2024, with Harris’s share among this group declining sharply from 24% to just 17%.
