He survived a shooting.

The mother of a San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver, who was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery, is grateful that “God shielded him” from a fatal outcome, as he was discharged from the hospital after only one day.

On Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers announced via X that Ricky Pearsall, a wide receiver, was injured during an attempted robbery earlier that day. The team reported that Pearsall had been shot in the chest but was in serious yet stable condition.

In a Facebook update, Pearsall’s mother, Erin, expressed her gratitude to God for protecting her son. She described him as “extremely fortunate” and noted that the bullet, which entered his chest and exited through his back, missed his vital organs. Erin Pearsall emphasized the value of life and encouraged people to cherish each other, expressing deep thankfulness for her son’s survival.

She concluded her post with a plea for prayers for her son, including praying hands and heart emojis.

The San Francisco Police Department reported that the incident occurred Saturday afternoon near Geary Street and Grant Avenue. An altercation between Pearsall and a suspect led to Pearsall’s injury. The suspect was apprehended, and further information about him was not released initially. On Tuesday, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins identified the suspect as a minor, facing charges including attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

Following the incident, the 49ers provided an update stating that Pearsall had been released from the hospital. They expressed their appreciation for the efforts of local law enforcement, emergency responders, and hospital staff.

49ers General Manager John Lynch commented on Pearsall’s condition at a press conference, highlighting the miraculous nature of his recovery and the importance of reflecting on life’s fragility.

Pearsall, who was drafted by the 49ers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after his college football career at Arizona State and the University of Florida, will be sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the season as he recovers. The 49ers have placed him on the non-football injury list.

Pearsall’s faith, reflected in his social media posts, is an important part of his life. In a previous X post, he expressed gratitude to God for his blessings and acknowledged his faith in Jesus Christ.
