They had their credentials revoked.
Two prominent leaders within an Australian Pentecostal megachurch, Neuma Church, have been temporarily stripped of their ministerial credentials following allegations of engaging in an extramarital affair. Corey Turner, serving as the global senior pastor, admitted to being involved with Stacey Hilliar, a female pastor within the same megachurch, which boasts branches across Thailand and the United States.
The news surfaced after an email from Wayne Alcorn, the President of Australian Christian Churches (ACC), circulated among pastors affiliated with the network. ACC represents a significant number of churches and believers in Australia. Alcorn disclosed that Turner and Hilliar had been suspended from ministry for a minimum of two years following an internal investigation and the acknowledgment of guilt from both parties.
In his communication, Alcorn urged fellow pastors to extend prayers and support to all those involved during this challenging time. He emphasized the importance of embracing God’s grace and emphasized that due process had been followed in addressing the allegations.
However, criticism arose, particularly from a group known as The Framework, which scrutinized Alcorn’s handling of the situation. They questioned the lack of public disclosure and advocated for a more severe penalty, suggesting that a two-year suspension was insufficient and that permanent removal from leadership roles was warranted.
Turner, in a since-deleted Facebook post, confirmed his resignation from Neuma Church, citing his involvement in a morally inappropriate relationship as the reason. He expressed remorse for his actions, admitting to neglecting spiritual guidance and succumbing to personal weaknesses.
The fallout extended beyond Turner and Hilliar, affecting their families and the broader church community. Jacomi Du Preez, Neuma Church’s board secretary, requested prayers for the Turner family and acknowledged their resignation due to unforeseen circumstances impacting their health and well-being.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the complexities and challenges inherent in leadership positions within religious organizations, highlighting the importance of accountability, transparency, and the pursuit of moral integrity. As both individuals and communities navigate the aftermath, the hope remains for healing, reconciliation, and a renewed commitment to spiritual values.
