The officer needs to be reprimanded.
The Metropolitan Police issued an apology after Christian singer Harmonie London was mistakenly told she couldn’t sing church songs on London’s Oxford Street. The incident occurred when volunteer officer Maya Hadzhipetkova approached London, a popular YouTuber, who had been singing “Amazing Grace” and “Goodness of God.” London claimed the officer threatened to confiscate her equipment if she didn’t stop. The encounter, captured on video, showed Hadzhipetkova asserting that singing church songs outside of church grounds was not allowed.
The Metropolitan Police is currently investigating the incident and has acknowledged that the officer was mistaken in stating that church songs couldn’t be sung outside of church grounds. The police issued a public apology, expressing regret for any offense caused and committing to learning from the situation. They clarified that the initial approach was related to busking, citing a specific by-law related to busking as the core issue.
Harmonie London, emphasizing that she was “sharing the Gospel” and not engaging in busking, recounted the incident to the Daily Mail. The video of the encounter, uploaded to YouTube, has gained over 50,000 views. Former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe called for the officer to be “struck off from the voluntary force,” stating that the officer had misconstrued the law and displayed an excessive desire to exert authority. Widdecombe emphasized that there is no legal basis for prohibiting someone from singing in a public space.
London USED to be in a christian Country
But if she chooses to sing anything with the “F” word in it, she can do so wherever she likes.
