He’s having none of it.
Pope Francis has stirred controversy by condemning critics of the Vatican’s recent decision allowing priests to bless same-sex couples, labeling their opposition as hypocritical. In an upcoming interview with the Italian magazine Credere, excerpts of which were released by Vatican News, the pontiff addresses the backlash against the Vatican’s December 18th declaration, titled “Fiducia Supplicans,” which permits pastoral blessings for same-sex couples without altering Church doctrine on marriage.
Responding to accusations that the declaration contradicts Catholic teaching by blessing homosexual behavior, Pope Francis clarifies that he blesses the love between two individuals, not a “homosexual marriage.” He emphasizes the universality of blessings, extending them to all, including those in non-traditional relationships. He criticizes the selective outrage over blessings, contrasting the lack of scandal when blessing individuals involved in morally questionable practices with the uproar over blessing same-sex couples.
The pontiff reiterates the importance of mutual respect and acceptance, condemning hypocrisy within the Church. This defense of “Fiducia Supplicans” aligns with previous statements from the Vatican, including Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez’s assertion that the blessing does not signify approval of morally unacceptable behavior.
Despite criticism from conservative factions of the Catholic community, others view the declaration as a compassionate gesture in line with Pope Francis’s pastoral approach. Proponents argue that the blessing reflects a desire to offer grace and support to all individuals seeking spiritual guidance, without endorsing specific actions. Pro-life activist Lila Rose refutes claims that the blessing equates to approval of same-sex relationships, emphasizing that blessings have historically been extended to all individuals, regardless of their perceived sins.
The controversy surrounding “Fiducia Supplicans” has prompted calls for the resignation of Pope Francis and Cardinal Fernandez from some quarters of the Catholic community. However, supporters of the declaration emphasize its consistency with the pope’s inclusive stance and the Church’s longstanding practice of offering blessings to all seeking spiritual solace.
God did not tell us to judge one another, He told us to love one another !
Loving one another has nothing to do with condoning outright sick immoral living!
When one doesn’t know the Bible and are not spiritual they cannot know the truth of God’s word. The Pope needs to read the book of Jude and Revelation for Truth regarding this issue.
You absolutely cannot condone, what the Bible condemns , all of what is going on in the world in the way of what God calls immoral activity cannot be condoned no matter what Satan says is OK! And that means nothing can be done in the act of sick immoral living no matter who says it is alight!
I don’r agree with same sex marriages and I agree with the Pope. Marriage is a blessed sacrament be it church or otherwise. We have become to liberal. It appease to me that if they can make it sound plausible it must be right. Sorry, I don’t go along with it.
