Music can be used as a channel to speak truth.

Josh Baldwin, a worship leader with Bethel Music, believes that music is a powerful tool for conveying truth in a secular and post-truth society, especially as young people face increasing struggles with depression, anxiety, and identity. Baldwin, a father of two preteens, emphasizes the importance of parents and the church in shaping children’s identities and grounding them in the Word of God to avoid future confusion and instability.

Baldwin’s latest project, a live album titled Made for More, addresses current issues through a biblical lens and highlights the communal aspect of worship within the church. He feels that this album is a more authentic representation of himself, combining his roles as both a worship leader and an artist. One of the most personal tracks on the album, “Prince of Peace,” was inspired by his wife’s struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, a recurring challenge for their family over the past five years.

The song “Prince of Peace” came to life during a writing session that Baldwin nearly skipped to be with his wife. His friends’ support allowed him to be open about their struggles, resulting in a song that candidly addresses their need for God’s peace. Initially, Baldwin intended for the song to remain a private comfort, but its inclusion on the album has resonated deeply with listeners, bringing them peace and hope.

In his creative process, Baldwin strives to balance theological accuracy with artistic authenticity. He consults with theologians and pastors to ensure his music aligns with the Word of God while maintaining inspiration and creativity. As worship music continues to gain mainstream popularity, Baldwin hopes it retains its authenticity and does not become formulaic, ensuring that it remains a true expression of faith and devotion.
