Church Acquires Huge Facility To Transform Homeless Outreach
First Presbyterian Church of Dallas (FPC Dallas) has announced plans to acquire the CitySquare Opportunity Center, a 53,000-square-foot facility, to expand the work of its community ministry, The Stewpot. This acquisition comes in response to the growing demand for services as The Stewpot continues to serve an increasing number of individuals in need. The expanded space will allow the ministry to relocate from its current location on Young Street, which is no longer large enough to accommodate its programs.
For nearly 50 years, The Stewpot has been providing crucial services to underserved communities, offering over 1,000 meals daily and various forms of support, including housing assistance and healthcare. With the number of individuals it serves tripling in recent years, the church recognized the need for a larger facility to continue fulfilling its mission. The new space will also allow for more efficient service delivery and better accessibility for those in need.
The new facility will also ensure continuity for CitySquare’s programs, including the Food Pantry and Neighbor Resource Center, which The Stewpot will continue operating. These programs help individuals with essential services like housing, mental health support, and financial assistance. The Opportunity Center, located just a mile from The Stewpot’s current site, will enhance the ministry’s ability to reach even more people in the community.
Founded in 1856, FPC Dallas is dedicated to transforming the city through ministries focused on reconciliation, peace, and justice. The Stewpot, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, has provided over 8 million meals and has supported countless individuals in overcoming homelessness and poverty. The church’s acquisition of the Opportunity Center is seen as a significant step in expanding its impact in Dallas.
With this move, The Stewpot will continue to support thousands of individuals annually, strengthening its mission to assist those in need. The church expressed gratitude to its donors and community partners, who have supported its work, and emphasized that continued fundraising will be essential to sustain and grow these vital services.
