Evangelist Makes Unbelievable Return To Church

Hans Schmidt, a 26-year-old military veteran and outreach director at Victory Chapel First Phoenix in Arizona, has made an extraordinary recovery after being shot in the head while street preaching last November. Initially not expected to survive, Hans has defied expectations, with his wife, Zulya Schmidt, announcing his return to the church. In an Instagram post, Zulya shared videos and photos of Hans smiling and playing the drums, expressing gratitude for what she called a “miracle.”

Victory Chapel First Phoenix, in a statement on their website, confirmed Hans’ release from the hospital and his return home. The church expressed joy and thanked God for the miracle they witnessed, asking for continued prayers as the Schmidt family navigates the road to full recovery.

Hans, a former military medic, faced the life-threatening incident on November 15, 2023, while engaged in church outreach in Glendale, Arizona. Despite being shot in the head, Hans exhibited resilience, initially falling but eventually getting back up, walking, and talking. The church highlighted the miraculous nature of his recovery, and a GoFundMe campaign initiated by a family friend has raised over $78,000 to support the Schmidt family during this challenging time.

Zulya Schmidt, in a previous update just over a month ago, mentioned that her husband was making “stunning progress” but was still unable to speak. Recounting the day of the shooting, Zulya revealed that Hans had been street preaching for over a year, typically engaging in a 30-minute session before the evening service. On the day of the incident, he concluded his street preaching early, packed up the sound system, and drove back to the church. Only later did Zulya notice he was bleeding, initially unaware that he had been shot.

Despite skepticism from doctors and investigators about Hans’ chances of survival, Zulya remained steadfast, and Hans has defied the odds, becoming an inspiring symbol of recovery.
