Senator Pushes Faith As America’s Saving Grace
Senator Josh Hawley has expressed concerns about what he sees as a growing threat to the nuclear family in the United States. In a recent speech at the Museum of the Bible, Hawley argued that the nuclear family is being undermined by various cultural and governmental forces. He criticized the tax code for penalizing marriage and pointed out policies that he believes make parenting more challenging. According to Hawley, the radical Left’s push for government control over parenting decisions reflects a long-standing trend of undermining traditional family structures and denying differences between men and women.
During the same event, hosted by the D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship, Hawley was awarded the Distinguished Christian Statesman Award. He used the platform to advocate for a positive redefinition of masculinity, urging men to embrace their roles as husbands and fathers with responsibility and commitment. Hawley emphasized the importance of spiritual engagement, asserting that active participation in religious practices significantly correlates with higher levels of charitable giving and family involvement.
Hawley also discussed his book, Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs, which he wrote to help his children understand the roles of husband and father through biblical examples. He criticized popular culture for being out of touch with scripture and historical values, suggesting that faith, rather than dividing, serves as a unifying force in American life. Hawley stressed the need to reaffirm the nation’s foundational biblical principles, particularly in the face of what he perceives as increasing hostility towards religious expression, as evidenced by pandemic-related worship restrictions.
In reflecting on his own Christian upbringing, Hawley praised his parents for introducing him to Jesus Christ at an early age and for fostering a faith-filled environment. He framed his role as a Christian statesman as a commitment to uphold the constitutional principles rooted in biblical truth. Russell, Executive Director of the Center for Christian Statesmanship, praised Hawley as a model Christian statesman, noting his principled approach and dedication to faith, family, and governance.
