100 Find Faith Amid Wildfire Devastation
Last week, Harvest Christian Fellowship held worship services in wildfire-ravaged Hawaii under the banner of “Hope for Lahaina.” Approximately 100 people professed their faith in Jesus during these gatherings, reflecting a community’s search for hope amidst devastation. Led by evangelist Greg Laurie, the church aimed to extend the message of Christ’s hope to a community deeply affected by wildfires, which claimed over 100 lives and displaced thousands.
The events, held at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua Hotel in Lahaina, Maui County, were part of Harvest’s ongoing efforts in the region since establishing a presence there in 2016. Recognizing the profound impact of the wildfires, Laurie highlighted the community’s hunger for hope in the face of loss and destruction. The gatherings drew over 3,000 attendees, featuring worship sessions led by Leeland and a performance by Danny Gokey of “American Idol” fame.
Laurie’s message centered on finding hope in God, emphasizing the transformative power of faith as depicted in biblical teachings. He underscored the role of the Church in providing both spiritual guidance and practical support to those affected by the wildfires. In response to immediate needs, Harvest initiated the Maui Relief Fund, offering assistance such as food, clothing, and mental health counseling to affected individuals and families.
Looking ahead, Harvest expressed optimism about its ministry in Maui, with plans to open a new facility later in 2024. This expansion aims to enhance the church’s capacity to serve the community and provide a welcoming space for spiritual growth and support. Despite the slow pace of rebuilding in Lahaina, Harvest remains committed to its mission of spreading the message of Christ’s hope and offering assistance to those in need, embodying the compassion and resilience of the Christian faith.
