Podcaster Claims Biblical Prophets Were Under The Influence
Podcaster Joe Rogan sparked debate recently by suggesting that biblical figures such as Moses and Ezekiel might have experienced their supernatural encounters while under the influence of hallucinogenic substances.
During an episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on April 2, Rogan engaged in a conversation with journalist David Holthouse about the surge in UFO sightings since the advent of the atomic bomb. Rogan proposed that encounters with otherworldly beings might have occurred throughout human history, possibly even predating biblical times.
Referencing the visions described in the book of Ezekiel, Rogan drew parallels between the prophet’s encounters and the experiences reported by individuals who have ingested psychedelics like DMT or ayahuasca. These substances are known to induce profound hallucinations, often involving encounters with entities resembling those described in religious texts.
Rogan also speculated about Moses’ experience with the burning bush, suggesting that the acacia tree, common in the region, could have contained psychoactive compounds like DMT. He proposed that Moses may have inadvertently ingested these substances, leading to his visionary experience and the reception of the Ten Commandments.
While Rogan’s theories are provocative, they are not without precedent. Professor Benny Shanon of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem previously suggested a similar idea in 2008, proposing that Moses may have been influenced by psychoactive plants during his encounters with the divine.
Rogan’s discussions on religious topics are not uncommon on his podcast. He has explored various theological themes, including discussions about Satan, Jesus, biblical prophecy, and societal morality. While some may find his perspectives controversial, Rogan’s willingness to engage with these subjects reflects his broader interest in exploring diverse ideas and perspectives.
I have a very short response for him: “Profoundly disgusting. if not a whole lot worse.”
Go back to school and learn some Old Testament biblical history.
That goes against the remarkable consistency and continuity of the Bible. More likely, Rogan has been under the influence!
Seems to me like a stab in the dark by someone whoe isn’t aware of or doesn’t understand the Christian teaching borne out by countless thousands of those who believe, love and obey God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) who actually have spiritual discourse and intercouse with God that is supra intellectual but does also inform the intellect. This explains the relationship that the saints of the holy apostolic church have with God which applies also to the great saints of the Old Testament. God created us with this capacity which can be real;ized only through long-term faith, humility, obedience to and love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Rogan will learn soon enough that his thoughts are of Satan and have no foundation or support from God’s word. Twist it all you like you will not like the final outcome for your false talk against the Lord.
