Over 1,000 Churches Launch Statewide Community Support Effort

In North Carolina, a major initiative called ServeNC is set to engage over 1,000 churches statewide from August 3 to August 10. This program encourages congregations to undertake service projects aimed at benefiting their local communities. Most of the participating churches are affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.

Todd Unzincker, the Executive Director-Treasurer of the convention, described the initiative as an opportunity for churches to actively demonstrate their faith through community service. He emphasized that ServeNC is designed to go beyond mere proclamations of faith, aiming to show love in action and challenge common perceptions of Baptists by meeting tangible needs.

The range of service projects planned includes supporting food pantries, organizing free yard sales, constructing wheelchair ramps, and distributing back-to-school supplies. Each project is tailored to address specific local needs, with churches continuing to add new initiatives.

Pastor Andrew Clark from Arran Lake Baptist Church in Fayetteville highlighted the importance of community impact, questioning whether the community would notice if a church ceased to exist. The ServeNC rally held in May facilitated volunteer opportunities, demonstrating the event’s focus on fostering unity and service among different churches.

Unzincker hopes that ServeNC will inspire ongoing community involvement beyond the event week. He encourages churches to remain responsive to local needs and to see this initiative as part of a larger mission to bring positive change, aligning with the vision of reflecting heavenly values on earth. Churches interested in joining can sign up at servenc.com, where resources and training are available to support their efforts.
