American Author Empowers Christians To Stand Firm
Renowned author and radio host, Eric Metaxas, is passionately urging the American Church to actively engage with their faith by confronting the escalating cultural challenges that, in his view, pose a threat to invoking God’s judgment.
Metaxas conveyed to The Christian Post that believers bear the responsibility of advocating for righteousness, truth, and goodness in the public arena. He emphasized the need for Christians not to shy away from politics but to actively participate, recognizing it as one of the avenues through which positive change can be achieved.
During a recent interview from Los Angeles, where he was promoting a documentary adaptation of his 2022 book, “Letter to the American Church,” Metaxas drew parallels between the current state of the American Church and the passivity of the German Church during the 1930s. The documentary, developed in collaboration with Turning Point USA, is set to debut on EpochTV on Feb. 8.
Metaxas, famous for his bestselling biography “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy,” warned against the danger of Christians not adequately resisting the growing societal evils, drawing a historical connection to the German Church’s failure to oppose the Nazi regime. He highlighted the prophetic warnings of German Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, whose calls for resistance fell on deaf ears until it was too late. Bonhoeffer ultimately faced martyrdom for his involvement in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
Expressing concern for the United States, Metaxas cautioned that similar judgments could befall the nation if American Christians do not actively stand against rising evils. He emphasized that the lesson from Germany is a divine message urging the American Church to resist evil.
Metaxas stressed the central theme of his book, stating that there is a theological misunderstanding that needs correction – the idea that faith without corresponding actions is insufficient. He challenged the belief that merely holding certain theological views is enough, asserting that true faith necessitates tangible expressions of that faith.
According to Metaxas, some Evangelical churches in the U.S. have misunderstood the scriptural call for Christians to impact their culture positively, creating a perilous situation in the face of increasing cultural challenges. He emphasized the scriptural command to stand against evil, rejecting the notion of avoiding contentious issues.
Dismissing the term “Christian nationalist” as a potentially divisive label, Metaxas argued that Christians should not be silenced by such terms. He asserted that Christians, as the voice of God, must engage in societal discourse rather than being intimidated into silence.
Metaxas pointed out that a culturally Marxist-atheistic worldview, which he deems as inhuman and cruel, is gaining influence, leading to divisive issues such as open borders, transgender matters, crime surges, a two-tiered justice system, and ideological conflicts. He urged the Church to rise against these challenges, emphasizing that evil prevails when the Church withdraws, citing historical parallels with Germany.
While Metaxas refrained from making specific predictions about the consequences if the Church fails to resist cultural evils, he emphasized the reality of evil and the potential for its escalation if not confronted. He warned that the U.S., despite its cultural blessings, is not immune to the consequences of a retreating Church, citing historical instances where civilizations faced upheaval due to unchecked evil.
In conclusion, Metaxas implored Christians to participate actively in standing against societal evils, motivated by love for their neighbors and the imperative to prevent the continuation of rising darkness.
Love it thanks.
