They are taking accountability and safeguarding the community.
The embattled International House of Prayer Kansas City (IHOPKC) has taken decisive action against self-styled “prophet” Bob Hartley of Hartley Hope Ministries. This comes after Hartley faced public accusations of sexual assault and predatory behavior impacting multiple women. IHOPKC has banned him from their 24/7 prayer room and clarified that he is neither on staff nor a congregant of Forerunner Church.
IHOPKC’s spokesperson, Eric Volz, confirmed the decision based on verified information presented against Hartley. The move follows a series of allegations brought to light by Michelle Seidler, a former prophetic teacher at IHOPKC, who detailed instances of inappropriate behavior by Hartley. Seidler shared first-hand accounts, including videos, text messages, and statements from multiple women.
Bob Hartley, known to be a friend of IHOPKC founder Mike Bickle, acknowledged the allegations in a video, admitting to mistakes during a “mid-life crisis” but asserting that the relationships were consensual. He denied being a “sex fiend” but rather a “love fiend” willing to offer financial blessings.
One woman claimed she was preyed upon and raped by Hartley, stating that she initially admired him as a “spiritual champion.” Another woman detailed an encounter where Hartley allegedly tried to abuse her using fake prophecy.
Seidler highlighted that attempts had been made over the past seven years to hold Hartley accountable for his actions, but no substantial actions were taken. Notably, IHOPKC had previously severed ties with Mike Bickle, who is under investigation for sexual immorality allegations dating back over 20 years.
The IHOPKC leadership, in response to allegations against Bickle, treated the claims as credible and requested him to step away from public ministry. The report mentioned that they identified five of eight alleged victims, with only one, identified as Jane Doe, found credible.
The situation involving both Bickle and Hartley underscores the need for accountability within religious organizations and the broader community. IHOPKC’s actions against Hartley indicate a commitment to addressing misconduct within its ranks, reflecting an industry-wide reckoning with issues of abuse and harassment. As these cases unfold, the importance of transparent investigations and support for survivors remains paramount in fostering a safer environment for all involved.
