Candace Owens criticized Don Lemon, the openly gay former CNN host, after a contentious interview on his new podcast. During the episode of “The Don Lemon Show,” Lemon inquired about Owens’ views on same-sex marriage, asking, “What’s your stance on same-sex marriage? Do you think my marriage to a man is a sin?”

Owens responded directly, “It’s a sin. Yes, you’re in a sinful relationship. I don’t believe marriage can be between two men.” Following the podcast’s release on July 12, Owens described the experience as “crazy.”

In a statement, Owens expressed her distress over the interview. “I need to share something with you all that has left me deeply unsettled. I appeared on Don Lemon’s podcast, formerly of CNN, and he provocatively asked if I would use a derogatory term for him,” Owens said.

Owens defended her decision to appear on the podcast despite Lemon’s controversial past, noting that she was open to engaging with individuals who have left their previous roles and shown a willingness to change. “His team was very courteous when they approached me, indicating they wanted a straightforward conversation,” Owens explained.

She went on to say that while she was aware the interview might have been designed to provoke, she was still taken aback by the experience. “I’ve never encountered an interview like this before,” Owens stated.

Owens also addressed the issue of being shown an old clip of herself discussing the evolution of language and its manipulation. In the clip, she criticized the idea of banning certain words, which she viewed as a misguided attempt to control language based on subjective feelings.

“Don Lemon played a clip where I talked about how the meaning of words can shift and be influenced by societal changes. I criticized this approach, particularly when it comes to words like ‘faggot,’ which historically referred to a bundle of sticks,” Owens said. “Then, bizarrely, Lemon asked if I would use that term for him.”

Owens concluded by rejecting the idea of using derogatory language, emphasizing that as a mature individual and mother, she does not engage in name-calling. “I don’t go around using offensive terms. It’s absurd to use such language, and I would not do that, period,” she affirmed.
