God had a hand in Trump’s survival.

On the final evening of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and evangelist Franklin Graham highlighted what they viewed as divine intervention in former President Donald Trump’s recent near-fatal experience.

Carlson began his address by reflecting on the profound impact of the assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. He suggested that the incident had irrevocably altered not just Trump, but the nation and the world. “Watching the footage, it became clear that everything changed after that moment,” Carlson remarked. He described Trump’s appearance, bloodied and wounded, yet defiant, as a transformative moment. According to Carlson, this was not just a political event but a spiritual one, elevating Trump from being merely a political figure to a significant national leader. Carlson, who relocated from Washington, D.C., in 2020, also shared a personal anecdote about how Trump had reached out to him during a period of personal crisis, which deepened his belief in a higher power.

Graham, speaking just before Trump, echoed Carlson’s sentiment, attributing Trump’s survival to God’s will. He acknowledged the near-death experience and its profound effect on Trump, noting that such experiences often lead to a reassessment of life and priorities. Graham expressed uncertainty about why Trump was spared while others were not but used the moment to emphasize his faith and the message of the Gospel. He pointed out Trump’s efforts to champion religious freedom globally, including his advocacy for the release of Andrew Brunson, an American pastor imprisoned in Turkey.

Graham prayed for Trump’s continued guidance and protection, highlighting the nation’s troubles and seeking divine assistance for Trump’s leadership. He hoped that Trump’s experience would draw him closer to God, a sentiment shared by Brunson, who had prayed for Trump’s wisdom following his release from imprisonment.

In his own acceptance speech for the GOP nomination, Trump reflected on the divine nature of his survival, suggesting that his presence at the convention was a result of providential intervention. “Many have said it was a providential moment,” Trump acknowledged, agreeing that it likely was.
