Following the devastation caused by a powerful tornado in Greenfield, Iowa, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre conveyed prayers and support from the Biden administration for the affected individuals. With five reported fatalities and at least 35 people injured, Jean-Pierre extended condolences to those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to the injured. She also expressed gratitude for the swift response of first responders in saving lives during the crisis.

Confirming four fatalities and multiple injuries, the Iowa Department of Public Safety refrained from releasing the names of the deceased pending family notification. Additionally, Monica Zamarron, aged 46, tragically lost her life when strong winds caused her vehicle to veer off the road near Highway 148 and Joshua Tree Avenue, as reported by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety anticipates an increase in the number of injured individuals, highlighting that the reported figures reflect only those treated at designated alternate care sites. The agency urged those with missing loved ones to contact the Storm Lake State Communication Center for assistance.

Governor Kim Reynolds, along with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, surveyed the tornado damage in Greenfield, with Reynolds requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden to aid affected Iowa communities.

Amid the devastation, survivors recounted relying on prayer and faith for safety. Valerie Warrior and Maggie Masker expressed gratitude for divine protection, with many others echoing sentiments of thankfulness for their safety and the well-being of their loved ones.

In response to the damage, access to Greenfield has been restricted to facilitate cleanup efforts and ensure safety. Only authorized personnel and volunteers assisting residents will be permitted entry, with a coordinated entry process in place to manage traffic and support recovery operations effectively. Volunteers are urged to adhere to designated entry points and minimize vehicle congestion in impacted areas.
